Elementary School

Elementary School (Gr K-5)

In grades K-5 our experienced and committed elementary faculty provide a warm and caring atmosphere for students from a wide variety of backgrounds.

Our program is student-centered, with teachers serving as facilitators and critical resources. At AISN, students construct knowledge through critical thinking and hands-on activities that engage them with the content they are learning.

Teacher-student dialogue is supported through conferring, questioning, and wondering. We are committed to the development of the whole child, providing a balanced program that addresses children’s social, emotional, and academic development.

Assessments are based on clearly-defined learning objectives, and take the form of observation, conferences, daily work, projects or other learning tasks. Ongoing feedback for students comes through self-reflection, peer evaluations, and teacher feedback. In our elementary classrooms, shared responsibility and student decision making are encouraged and planned for. When students are encouraged to ask questions they become empowered as learners.

We value the home-school partnership and we are committed to promoting a positive, collaborative and trusting environment for students to learn, teachers to grow, and parents to participate.
